PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers could be getting their first-round pick back for practice on Monday and veteran Jalen Ramsey is coming off the Physically Unable to Perform list. They also described Joey Porter, Junior situation as ‘at an impasse’.
Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said before practice on Monday that tackle Max Iheanachor is scheduled to practice and they are hopeful of him practicing. Iheanachor suffered a neck/shoulder injury during the first full week of camp and hasn’t practiced full since. He’s missed both preseason games.
“I really want to see him go today,” McCarthy said. “I know he’s anxious to go. I’ll be watching him a lot through the individual. We’ve got two padded practices so it will be a really good indication of how much he can play on Thursday. We’ll see how it goes.”
Ramsey started training camp on the PUP list and will bring a different element to their defense. The 32-year-old started every game last year at various positions, including playing safety for the first time in his career. He finished with 88 tackles, three sacks, eight passes defensed and an interception. It’s expected Ramsey will play in the slot, although Joey Porter, Junior remains on the injured list.
“This is a challenge for both Joey and us because we are a first-year staff,” McCarthy said. “We’ve seen him play, competed against Joey. Our defensive guys would love the opportunity.
“We are at an impasse right here and you got to respect that. Every one of us has a contract. The organization has beliefs. That’s kind of where we are.”
