The Steelers “Color Rush” uniforms are one of the more popular alternative jerseys in the team’s recent history.
The bumblebee jerseys were met with mixed reviews. So were the gold helmets the team wore every now and then for a time.

Alternative jerseys are a fun way to honor a team’s past or to try something new…and of course a great source of revenue.

All NHL teams unveiled a “reverse retro” before the beginning of the season.
The Penguins “reverse retro” honors the early 90s road jerseys that feature the Pittsburgh diagonal lettering.
While I’m more of a fan of the black jersey compared to the new white version, I don’t’ mind the Penguins wearing it every now and then.
The key to an alternative jersey is to keep it to special occasions or only bring it out every once in awhile.
The Steelers only wear their color rush jersey once, maybe twice a year. Same thing with their throwback jersey, if they even use them at all.
With the NHL’s “reverse retro” jerseys being so popular and generating quite the buzz, should the NFL consider their own line?
Pete Rogers, best known for his jersey redesigns has his own idea one what way the Steelers could go.
Rogers takes the Steelers home jersey of the 1970s/80s and created an all gold jersey with black lettering.
I love the idea, throw on some black pants and the classic black helmet and it would look great on the field.
Who knows if the NFL will ever try their hand at a league-wide alternate jersey, but it’s fun to imagine.
Rogers also proposed a "City inspired" Steelers jersey last year.
