Pitt men took a beating from Duke on Thursday, losing 96-69 in the ACC Tournament, a loss so bad, the Panthers will be wondering until 6 p.m. on Sunday if they are going to the big dance or not.

Even though the Panthers were 14-6, one game out of first place in the ACC, and 22-11 overall, losses to teams like Florida State and Notre Dame during the season don’t help them.

As of Friday afternoon, Pitt is one of the last four in, according to ESPN bracketology expert Joe Lunardi.

If that’s what happens, the Panthers appears likely to play Rutgers (and assistant head coach Brandin Knight) in the play-in games Tuesday or Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio.

But, Sporting News college basketball expert Mike DeCourcy has the Panthers comfortably in the 11th spot taking on Saint Mary’s in the Midwest section of the bracket.

It’s going to be a nerve-racking weekend for Jeff Capel’s Panthers and their fans. Beats the no chance they’ve seen the last six years.
