It’s been another disappointing year for Pirates right field Gregory Polanco.

He’s currently batting .203 with 11 home runs and 34 RBI and was placed on outright waivers earlier this week, but was not picked up by another team and continues to appear in the lineup (including Thursday when the Pirates open up a series against the Cardinals).

It appears to have come to a boiling point for Polanco who ripped fans on Thursday. Speaking before the game, Fan Pirates insider Jason Mackey of the Post-Gazette was one of reporters there.

Polanco went on to add, “There are only 5,000 people there.
You hear everything . . . Nobody wants to make errors. Nobody wants to strike out. I know I’m not playing great, but I’m trying. I’m playing my ass off every day. I’m trying to get better.”

After an error on Wednesday night, fans began to chant "DFA" toward Polanco.

The 29-year-old also admitted he knows he's playing for a contract and that this is likely his last year with the Pirates, calling it his "free agent year."

Polanco added:

While Polanco is a good person by all accounts, he is the highest-paid player on the roster by a big margin making $11 million in 2021 and is his play on the field as been among the worst in the clubhouse.
