PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Joey Porter, Junior said after practice Monday ‘yeah, definitely, I’m back for sure’ as the Steelers get its starting corner against the Browns Sunday. It’s the first time he’s played since his hamstring injury suffered opening week against the Jets.
“I wanted to get back before the bye week just to get my little groove in, but it’s for the greater good that I sat and got some more time,” Porter, Junior said. “We are ready now.”
Porter said he just followed Mike Tomlin’s plan, but said he could have played in Ireland. That is a luxury they have with being as deep as they are. Just with their active corners they have 37 years of NFL experience, if you include Jalen Ramsey. Porter is the kid in the group as even James Pierre off the practice squad as twice as many years of NFL experience than Joey.
“Coaches said even before I went down that we got horses,” Porter said. “We got a lot of good guys that can come in and make plays. I went down and we had BE (Brandin Echols) step up really these past couple of games. I feel like the clock is going to keep ticking and we are going to keep grinding and keep striving to be the best out there.”
Now Ramsey might be out a little bit of time after the defense just got DeShon Elliott back as they play Sunday at home against the Browns and then a quick turnaround Thursday at Cincinnati.
“That’s just a part of football, we all know that,” Porter said. “So going in we got to have our guys ready and be prepared. When one guy goes down we already know the next guy is up. We are going to focus on that guy who is up and we are not going to worry on the guy who is down. We are going to let recovery and come back.”
“We got to keep going.”
