PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Think Jared Jones was fired up for his first start in 17 months? His first three pitches were over 100 mph in his rehab start at Class A Bradenton Wednesday night.
Eight of his first 11 pitches were 100 mph including a strikeout of the second Lakeland (Detroit’s A-team) batter. His highest velocity was 101.1 mph in a strikeout to end the first inning.
In all Jones threw 41 pitches, 30 strikes over three perfect innings with five strikeouts.
Last year lost to Tommy John surgery, it was Jones’ first game since Spring Training 2025 when he first noticed the UCL tear that ended the season.
Jones has pitched for the Marauders previously as a 19-year-old in 2021 going 3-6, 4.64 ERA with 103 strikeouts in 66 innings. He struck out 11 in a game which tied the Bradenton team record.
Now 24, Jones made the team out of camp in 2024 going 6-8 in 22 starts with a 4.14 ERA. He threw 121.2 innings with 39 walks, five hit batters and 132 strikeouts. Jones is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list at the end of May.
