The Steelers will need to rely on the leg on Matthew Wright for at least the next four games.
The team announced on Thursday that kicker Chris Boswell is going on the Injured/Reserve list.
It was expected that Boswell would miss some time after Wright was added to the 53-man roster on Wednesday.
Wrights was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2019 by the Steelers, Wright has kicked in 19 NFL games with the Chiefs, Jags and Steelers. He’s hit 87.5% of his field goals (28-32) including five from 50-plus among them is a 59-yarder this year for Kansas City against the Raiders.
Wright holds the University of Central Florida record for career points and extra-points made.
Boswell missed the Steelers last game against the Eagles before the bye with a groin injury. Nick Sciba kicked in that game, but was released on Tuesday.
There is some good news though.
As expected, safety Damontae Kazee, who broke his wrist in the final preseason game, has been active off of IR. He needed to be activated Thursday or miss the rest of the season
The 29-year-old signed a one-year, $1.187 million contract this season after starting 15 games with Dallas last year.
“Anywhere somebody needs help at,” Kazee said. “If Minkah goes down, I’ll go back there. If Terrell goes down, go play his position. Anywhere, just be versatile.”
