His name’s Kenny Pickett and he hits dingers.
The rookie Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback won the team’s annual home run derby competition on Tuesday, just days after he threw the game-winning touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks in their first game of the preseason.
Steelers head Coach Mike Tomlin put out a post on Instagram after the competition to announce Pickett’s victory.
One homer, posted to the Steelers Twitter account, shows Pickett almost hitting Saint Scholastica Hall.
It should come as no surprise, Pickett launched a ball out of the park during the Pittsburgh Vs. The World softball game to benefit Cam Heyward’s foundation at Wild Things Park last month.
Cam Sutton and Pat Freiermuth were just a few of the players who also participated in it.
The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi and Pickett’s number one fan, said it’s a good sign for the future since Ben Roethlisberger used to win the home run derby when he played.
Even with the home run derby championship in his pocket and the game-winning TD, It still appears it will be Mitch Trubisky who gets the start in Week One, but Pickett did get to run first team on Wednesday, with Mason Rudolph running second.
Trubisky had the day off.
While Trubisky will likely be the starter, it seems like his leash is getting shorter and shorter.
