According to Audacy NFL insider Peter King, the Steelers will speak with former Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury about their open Offensive Coordinator job.
Kingsbury failed as a head coach, going 28-37-1 during his four-years in Arizona, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be a great offensive coordinator.
Kingsbury might just be the person that quarterback Kenny Pickett needs.
He’s helped develop Patrick Mahomes at Texas A&M while head coach, helped Johnny Manziel win the Heisman Trophy in 2012 as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach.
In the NFL, QB Kyler Murray won the Offensive Rookie of the Year under Kingsbury.
Kingsbury was fired by the Cardinals after the 2022 season. He was an offensive analyst with USC last season.
While Kingsbury is known for his work with quarterbacks, King "guarantees" if the Steelers hire him, the Steelers will be a run-first team.
King says he spoke to Kingsbury his first year with the Cardinals and said they would be a run-first team.
“He started talking about what a great running team we’re going to be and we’ll be a great running team before we’re a great passing team . . . and that year . . . they were first or second in the NFL in rushing,” said King.
“I think somebody who gets him, would be getting a good coach,” added King.
