According to one MLB Insider, the Pirates and Konnor Griffin on “deep into negotiations” on a contract extension.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reports both the Pirates and Griffin’s people are going back and forth, trying to hammer out a deal.

Olney reports the Pirates are in the eight-year, $111 million ranger and Griffin’s side is looking for similar years, but closer to $130 million.

Talking to The PM Team last week in Indianapolis before his Triple-A debut, Griffin said, “I have a great team with Excel (Sports Management) to just handle that so I can go on the field and be myself,”

“I just try to keep the mindset that none of that matters unless you are performing on the field.”

“I’m starting pretty early in my career. I’ve got a long way to go.”

Griffin said the agents have a good sense with him about when to talk business, but didn’t hesitate to say he wants to be in Pittsburgh.

“I just want to be a Pirate for a long time,” Griffin told Fillipponi, Mueller & Chedrick on 93.7 The Fan. “I want to be part of a big rebuild. I’m excited about the future of the team. I want to be a part of that for sure.”

Taken 9th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft, Griffin is considered the top prospect in baseball.

Over four games with the Indians this season, Griffin is batting, .462 with six hits over 13 at bats with three doubles, one RBI and two stolen bases.
