PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The first few days battling through a forearm injury, the Pirates have put 20-year-old Konnor Griffin in the Injured List.

“We had circled (Sunday) as an important today to make a final call,” said Pirates general manager Ben Cherington on the Pirates Insider Show on 93.7 The Fan and the Pirates Radio Network. “We were trying to buy some time. Nothing has changed in the diagnosis. It’s still a minor flexor strain.”

Cherington said Griffin did throw on Sunday and feels significant progress. This is something that has built up over time, not one event caused the strain.

“It’s still in there a little bit, what that tells us is that he wouldn’t be good for him or the team for him to play shortstop in Houston,” Cherington said on 93.7 The Fan. “Let’s make sure this thing is good to go and that he can come back 100%.”

“We are pretty confident this will be a short IL stint.”
