Lefty starter Bailey Falter traded to KC

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He might be the biggest value return in a trade made by GM Ben Cherington with the Pirates and now he’s the second Pirates player traded to Kansas City this month.

Left-handed starter Bailey Falter to the Royals for left-handed relief pitcher Evan Sisk and first baseman Callan Moss.

LHP Evan Sisk
The 6’2” Sisk is a side-arm throwing lefty originally drafted by the Cardinals in the 16th round in 2018. He made 31 appearance at AAA with a 3.77 ERA over 28.2 innings with 36 strikeouts to 9 walks and a high 1.60 WHIP due to 37 hits allowed. The 28-year-old South Carolina native made 5 appearances with the Royals, 5.1 innings, one run, five hits and 11 strikeouts. He has years of team control.

In 2024, Sisk went 6-2 with a 1.57 ERA and 15 saves with 81 strikeouts in 57.1 innings and a .166 batting average against. He was named an International League post-season All-Star. The Pirates are his fourth organization-Twins are the other.

1B Callan Moss
6’3”, 225 pounds, Moss is currently at High A with 22 doubles, 3 triples, 7 home runs, 70 RBI with a .270 average, .372 on-base percentage, .790 OPS. The 21-year-old was signed out of independent baseball and last year at low A he hit .339 in 22 games with a .488 on-base percentage.

Sparked by an amazing May, the 28-year-old Falter is 7-5 with a 3.73 ERA this year. In 113.1 innings, 70 strikeouts to 39 walks with a 1.18 WHIP and .232 batting average against. In 35.2 innings in May, Falter allowed three earned runs for a 0.76 ERA and 0.83 WHIP. The ERA was 4.10 in July as he gave up 2 hits and a run over five innings in his final Pirates start on Tuesday, a no-decision at San Francisco.

Falter came to the Pirates from Philadelphia on August 1. 2023 for infielder Rodolfo Castro. Earlier this month, Pirates sent second baseman Adam Frazier to Kansas City.
