It was a week for giving, and the high school basketball scene left plenty of great gifts under the tree, including some monster scoring efforts in meaningful games.
This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous week. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL boys and girls classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.
Here are the top performances from Week 4:
Luke Scarff, South Park
South Park has had one of the best starts to the 2025-2026 season, and Scarff has played a big role — literally.
The 6-foot-8 big man scored 25 and 22 points last week in wins over Shady Side Academy and Carlynton.
After averaging a double-double last year, Scarff is on pace to repeat that feat this season.
South Park’s all-time scorer, Scarff has a Division II offer from Point Park.
Violet Trump, Beth-Center
Scoring 24 points in a game is impressive. But doing it twice in the same day? That’s unheard of.
But that’s what Violet Trump was able to do Saturday, scoring 24 against Charleroi in a game that tipped at 4 p.m. and then repeating the effort against Albert Gallatin in a game that began four hours later. The Bulldogs won both games.
Beth-Center has won three straight and four of its last five games following an 0-4 start to the season.
Lamont Perkins, McKeesport
McKeesport worked overtime to win a couple of games last week. And Perkins carried the load in both.
Perkins dropped 34 points in an impressive 71-65 overtime win over Uniontown Tuesday. Four days later, the senior scored 21 in an overtime win over Fairview.
The Tigers have won three straight and sit at 5-2 overall.
Maggie Maiers, Latrobe
Latrobe picked up a pair of solid wins last week with Maiers leading the team in both.
The junior posted 28 points and added 13 rebounds in a 59-51 win over Kiski on Monday. She then dropped 21 points in a 64-28 win over Southmoreland Saturday.
A numerous sport athlete who also plays volleyball, Maiers has the Wildcats at 5-3 overall and 3-1 in their section.
KDKA Radio’s coverage of high school basketball resumes Friday with Central Catholic at Penn Hills. You can hear the game on 100.1 FM, AM-1020 KDKA and the Audacity app.
