The PIAA basketball championships are in the books, and the WPIAL brought home three trophies from the weekend’s games in Hershey.

This season, KDKA Radio has recognized some of the top boys and girls basketball players from the WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League.

Next month, along with a fan vote, the KDKA Radio high school sports staff will name the winners of the prestigious Super 7 Basketball awards.

This week, the top three performers from the PIAA championship wins for WPIAL teams are honored on the KDKA Radio Super 7 Watch List.

Jaden Gales, Bishop Canevin

All season, Gales has played an instrumental role for the Crusaders.

The Class 1A WPIAL champions added to their trophy case Thursday. Galees scored 14 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and had four blocks in 64-47 win over St. John Neumann Thursday in the PIAA Class 1A title game.

The state championship is the first for the Crusaders, which finished the season with a 25-4 record, including 18 straight wins to close the year.

Gales, a 6-6 senior, scored over 17 points per game this season. He has offers from Point Park, PSU Fayette and Mount Aloysius.

Mairan Haggerty, Neshannock

Haggerty found a spot on the KDKA Radio Watch List for her double-double effort in the WPIAL Girls 2A title game.

It appears she has a knack for delivering when there’s a trophy on the line.

The junior scored 23 points, hauled in seven rebounds and blocked six shots in the Lancers’ 62-56 win over Southern Columbia.

Haggerty scored around 19 points per game this year for the Lancers, which were one of just two public schools to win a state title this season.

Jake DiMichele, OLSH

Spoiler alert. Don’t be surprised if DiMichele takes home a Super 7 trophy in a few weeks.

The 25 points, 11 rebounds, an assist, a block and four 3-pointers in 92-71 win over Constitution, tying the PIAA record for consecutive wins with 68.

The senior is the fourth-leading scorer in WPIAL history and scored 33 points per game this season.

DiMichele has offers from Seton Hill and Cal U.
