KDKA Radio

As we enter the final week of the 2022-2023 regular season, there are still a number of playoff spots up for grabs and section titles to be decided. There are also more great individual performances to come.

This season, we will nominate four players (two boys, two girls) to the KDKA Radio Super 7 Basketball Watch List each week. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will name one player from each WPIAL boys and girls classification, plus the Pittsburgh City League, as the prestigious KDKA Radio Super 7 Player of the Year Award winner.

Here is a look at the four players who had big weeks during Week 8 of our coverage:

Brendan McCullough, Peters Township

A strong two-sport athlete, McCullough has been shining on the hard wood since the end of his football season.

The senior put up 25 points in a 90-42 blowout of Connellsville Tuesday, and followed that with 21 points in a 89-39 rout of Ringgold Friday.

The Indians are now 16-3 and 7-1 in Section 1-5A.

McCullough, an all-conference football player, has received football scholarship offers from St. Vincent, Westminster, W&J, Carnegie Mellon and Grove City.

Eve Fiala, Indiana

One of the WPIAL's tallest girls players, Fiala is having a strong senior season for Indiana.

She scored 17 points in a 61-34 win over Gateway Monday and then 29 points in a 68-31 win over Franklin Regional Thursday, moving the Little Indians to 14-6 and 10-0 in Section 1-5A.

Fiala is committed to play at Dayton.

Elijah Hill, South Fayette

With its back against the wall, the ions came through with two big victories last week to keep their playoff hopes alive. And Hill led the way.

The senior scored 23 points against Chartiers Valley in 56-34 win Tuesday, and then went for a game-high 36 points in an upset of Mars in a 77-72 triple overtime victory over Mars Friday.

Hill is scoring over 22 points per game this season, as the Lions remained a game out of a playoff spot entering the final week of the regular season.

Jenna Dawson, Belle Vernon

Belle Vernon has been one of the WPIAL's hottest teams since the start of the new year, and have won seven straight games.

The senior put up a season-high 21 points in 56-33 win over Southmoreland Monday, and then scored 17 points against Laurel Highlands in 53-45 win Thursday.

Dawson, who has battled through ACL surgery in her career, has the Leopards a half-game out of first place in Section 3-4A.

The high school basketball season continues Friday, when Penn Hills visits Woodland Hills for a boys basketball showdown. You can hear the game on 100.1 FM and 1020 AM KDKA Radio. And be sure to follow KDKA Radio's social media accounts throughout the night for updates, photos and videos of the action.
