After this week, we'll already be halfway through the 2022 high school football regular season.
This week, we witnessed some massive performances on the field, including a dynamic two-way quarterback spectacle, more strong performances from two of the WPIAL's top running backs and a wideout that found two ways to score five touchdowns.
Throughout the season, KDKA Radio will put together a watch list of some of the best players in the region. At the end of the year, the top performer from each WPIAL classification, and one member of the Pittsburgh City League, will receive the prestigious KDKA Super 7 Award.
Here are the top players from Week 3:
Jake Phillips, Hempfield
Phillips makes the Super 7 Watch List after putting up a real Super 7 performance.
The senior quarterback accounted for seven touchdowns as the Spartans blew out Shaler, 48-7, Friday night.
Phillips passed for 323 yards and four scores, and rushed for 51 more yards and three more touchdowns in the win.
The Spartans are 4-0 for the first time since 1971 and host Penn-Trafford this Friday. Phillips has offers from Mercyhurst and Saint Vincent.
Richie Woods, Peters
For the second time already this season, a Peters Township player makes the KDKA Radio Super 7 Watch List .
This time, it's Woods.
The senior tailback ran for 224 yards on just 22 carries, scoring a touchdown, while also catching three passes for 31 more yards, as the Indians topped South Fayette 42-28.
Woods has played a nice role alongside fellow Watch List nominee Chris Cibrone, who is among the WPIAL leaders is passing.
Woods has now rushed for 505 yards and seven touchdowns this season. He has an offer from Saint Vincent.
Zach Boyd, Elizabeth Forward
The Warriors have had the 'Killer Z's' this season.
Zach Boyd and Zion White are one of the WPIAL's top passing tandems, and balled out Friday in Elizabeth Forward's 42-21 win over Shady Side Academy.
Boyd caught five passed for 202 yards, including four touchdowns for EF. He also returned the game's opening kick 97 yards for a fifth score.
The senior has offers from. Mercyhurst, Marist, Walsh and Clarion. The Warriors are 4-0 and have scored at least 33 points in each game.
Landan Stevenson, Mapletown
It's been a sensational start to the season for Stevenson, and it continued Friday night.
Stevenson ran for 222 yards and three touchdowns to lead Mapletown over Beth-Center, 41-14.
So far this season, Stevenson has rushed for 728 yards in four games and has scored scored 109 points, the highest mark in the WPIAL.
The junior is also a strong baseball and basketball player for the Maples, who are 4-0 on the gridiron this year.
