More fans will be in the seats at PPG Paints Arena to cheer on the Penguins in the playoffs.
The team has announced they will have over 9,000 fans in the seats beginning on May 17.
It was announced on Tuesday that outdoor capacity in PA is being raised to 75 percent and indoor to 50 percent.
On May 31, all COVID mitigation efforts in the commonwealth will end, with the exception of wearing a mask indoors.
The NHL has yet to announce the dates of the first round between the Penguins and Islanders. If Game One is played before May 17, capacity will remain at 25 percent.
"This is very exciting news for our region and our fans," said David Morehouse, president and CEO of the Penguins. "We want to thank Governor Wolf, Secretary Alison Beam, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Mayor William Peduto for their tireless efforts in safely opening venues as we work our way out of the pandemic. Thank you also to our partners at UPMC, who have been working with us every step of the way. All fans will still be required to wear masks, and other cleaning and safety efforts on game days will continue both inside and outside PPG Paints Arena."
The Penguins will contact season ticket holders who have already purchased tickets for the playoffs.
General public tickets for Games One and Two go on sale Wednesday morning.
The Pirates also released a statement on Tuesday announcing they are making plans to increase capacity, but those changes won’t be in effect until June due to month-to-month ticketing this season.
“Today’s announcement is more welcomed news for our community as we continue to overcome this pandemic. Due to our current month-to-month ticket sales cycle, we continue to solicit feedback from our fans as we work towards a safe and significant increase in capacity at PNC Park beginning in June. We look forward to announcing the details of our capacity increase and updates to protocols in place at the ballpark in the coming days.”
