Eric Doerue rushes 34 times for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns, as South Park wins the WPIAL 2A Championship 21-14 over Seton LaSalle.
The South Park Eagles took nearly 7:30 off the clock after a 12-play drive that went for 67 yards. Doerue capped the drive off with a 6-yard rushing touchdown. The extra point was blocked.
Seton LaSalle would give the ball right back to the Eagles after a 10-yard completion to Richard Littlejohn was fumbled at the Rebels 47.
South Park turned the turnover into points with a 10-play drive. On 4th and goal from the one, Robert Lenzi took in the touchdown. Doerue punched in the 2-point conversion.
The Rebels got the ball into the speedy Khalil Taylor's hands with a reverse that went for 32 yards to the end zone cutting the Eagles lead to 14-7.
South Park opened the third quarter with an 11-play drive that took 7:07 off the clock and ended in a Doerue rushing touchdown, his second of the game.
With 11:18 in the game, Michael Pastirik connects with Littlejohn for a 50-yard strike for the touchdown to cut the South Park lead back to 7.
Faced with 4th and 2, South Park's Kenyan Brown gained 8 on the carry and put the game away.
The Eagles dominated time of possession 36:20 to 11:40. They outrushed Seton LaSalle 217 to 56.
"It's what we've done all year, it's what got us here, we're not going to shy away from what we do," said head coach Brian Abbey to KDKA Radio's Donny Chedrick. "We believe in our guys up front, we believe in our backfield and they got it done. I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm so proud of these guys."
It's the 3rd WPIAL championship for the Eagles. The first since 2005.
South Park will face the winner of Cambria Heights vs Central Clarion next weekend.
