Neil Walker once got out of a speeding ticket, thanks to an autographed Andrew McCutchen bat.
During his weekly appearance on the Fan Morning Show, Walker said years back, at the beginning of the All-Star break, he and his family were on their way out of town, spending a few days away to recharge.
“I was trying to get out of town . . . I was going too fast, got pulled over,” said Walker.
Walker understandably didn’t reveal what area he was pulled over but luckily for him, the officer that pulled him over was a big Pirates fan.
Walker says the police officer was collecting items for a fundraiser he was helping out with and he just happened to have an autographed McCutchen baseball bat, “and I was more than happy to give it to the gentleman.”
“I said in fact, I have a couple things in my baseball bag, that I was going to take home because I usually collect bats and stuff from teammates just to have as safe keeps.”
Walker adds he threw in a couple of his items as well.
The move got him out a ticket since he was going 85mph in a 55mph.
Walker says he he’s usually responsible, but something happens when ball players get some time off.
“When that last out happens before the All-Star break and on the last game of the season, especially if you’re not in the playoffs, I’m telling you, there’s something inside of you that’s getting you from point A to point B much quicker than you normally would,” said “That was probably the fastest I’ve gone in a long time and I was just fortunate enough to have a guy pull me over that was a big baseball fan.”
