PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – In preparing to attempt to break a four-game losing streak at Florida State on Saturday, Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi quoted a motivational speaker at practice.

“Movitation is crap, motivation comes and goes.  When you are driven, everything in front of you will get destroyed”, that is from retired Navy SEAL and ultramarathon runner David Goggins, but relayed by Narduzzi to his team on Thursday.

Narduzzi said the motivation guy, the guy who talks, it goes in one ear and out the other.  Maybe it fired up someone for 10 minutes.

“If we have to have Jimmy Morrissey be the guy who is raw, raw, raw, raw cheerleader,” Narduzzi said.  “We will get him some pompoms.  Get me some pompoms and a skirt and that won’t be a pretty sight.”

“Our guys have to have passion, a desire to get better and do the right thing.  We have all kinds of leaders.  Our kids come out every day and don’t need to have their buttons pushed.  That’s what I love about this football team, they come to practice every day.”

“Are they perfect?  No.  But they don’t need to be motivated to come practice every day.”

Narduzzi said it’s been a good week of practice leading up to the game at Florida State on Saturday on 93.7 The Fan at 4.

“We take one game at a time, we don’t let the past games affect us,” said receiver Shocky Jacques-Louis.  “We go to Florida State 0-0 and look to go 1-0.”

Narduzzi also believes they will play quicker and better after a first bye week coming 7 games into the season.

“We were about to the point where we were practicing the whole team in yellow because guys were banged up,” said defensive coordinator Randy Bates.  “It gives them the chance to heal up and gives us the chance to play fast again.”
