Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin confirms that Mason Rudolph will start for the on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
Tomlin said during his weekly news conference that they will continue with the hot hand and “not disrupting the apple cart.”
He says that Rudolph has done his job and so has the team around him.
“We’ve been in some tough circumstances, he’s delivered, we’ve delivered,” said Tomlin.
Tomlin also talked about why he thinks Rudolph has been able to make the most of his opportunity.
“He has an unflappable confidence in himself, he’s highly professional, he’s always preparing and prepared and I think that that provides the platform for the performances you are seeing,”
Tomlin was later asked about Rudolph’s skillset, not just confidence.
“He’s making good decisions, but he’s working hard from a preparation standpoint and that preparedness is showing,” said Tomlin. “There’s a cumulative body of work to speak of too, Mason’s been here a long time, I think that’s a component of it.”
Asked why Kenny Pickett is still ahead of Mason Rudolph on the depth chart, Tomlin said “would it make you feel better if I did?”
“We’re going about our business cultivating a plan to win this week, we care less about division of labor in terms of what’s on pieces of paper and depth charts and so forth,” added Tomlin.
Rudolph is 3-0 this season with 719 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.
