Pirates third baseman Nick Gonzales was removed from Friday night’s contest against the Boston Red Sox after taking a wild pitch to the helmet from Boston’s Jovani Morán. He is currently being checked out by the team’s medical staff for a facial contusion and is considered day-to-day, the Pirates announced via social media during the game.
After taking a moment to collect himself, Gonzales left the game and was replaced by Jacob Gonzalez in the top of the order. Gonzales hadn’t recorded a hit in the game on two at-bats.
Gonzales is batting .307 with a .761 OPS, and has racked up 6 homers and 53 RBI this season for Pittsburgh.
