PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Few records remain that Pitt senior Kenny Pickett hasn't broken. On Senior Day, Pickett checked off another.

Pickett passed Rod Rutherford for most passing yards in a season after a seven-yard completion to Tre Tipton late in the first half.  Rutherford set the record of 3,679 yards in 2003.


The New Jersey native is one touchdown behind Dan Marino and Rutherford for 37 passing touchdowns in a season. Pickett is four touchdowns behind Marino's 79 for most passing TDs in a career.

Pickett did pass Marino and Rutherford with 40 touchdowns responsible for, breaking the record of 39.

Pickett already holds the Pitt career records for Total Offense, Passing Yards, Touchdown Responsibility, Completions, Rushing TD by QB, Most 300 and 400-yard passing games and the only 500-yard passing game.

Pickett started the day 403 yards from second-place on the ACC career passing yards list.  Tajh Boyd-Clemson at 11,904 yards is second.  Philip Rivers-NC State at 13,484 yards is the all-time leader.
