Pirates 1st overall pick Henry Davis homers in first game

The 21-year-old catcher is currently 2 for 3 with 3 RBI in his first game in the FCL

The Pirates 2021 first round draft pick Henry Davis is on the field playing his first professional game in the Pirates system and he's off to a great start.

In his third at bat, Davis playing on the Pirates Florida Complex League Black team, hit a home run off Tampa prospect Over Galue, who currently has a 1.80 ERA.


The 21-year-old catcher also had an RBI double in his second at bat, flying out in his first.

This double came off Antonio Jimenez, who currently has a 1.71 ERA.

Davis went 2 for 4 with three RBI batting .500 with the Black team losing 16-10.

We know it's super early but it's exciting to see Davis finally on the field.

The 21-year-old drafted after a first-team All-American season at Louisville and was a finalist for the Buster Posey Award as college baseball's best catcher.

Davis threw out 46% of the runners stealing and was top 10 in the ACC in six hitting categories including average (.370), hits (68), home runs (15), RBI (48).

"I couldn't be more excited," Davis said. "Getting signed right away is important to me. I want to get playing. There is no time to waste. Getting right to work, I'm pretty happy with how it went."
