PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – After acquiring one of the more desirable right-handed relievers on Monday in Luke Weaver, the Pirates closed business at the MLB Trade Deadline added a pair of other right-handed relievers.
Kirby Yates
The 39-year-old pitched in 31 games with the Angels this season with a 3.95 ERA. In 27.1 innings, he struck out 36 and walked 12 for a 1.17 WHIP and .202 batting average against. Yates did give up runs in three of his last five appearances. He’s 5’10”, 205 pounds who becomes a free agent after the season. The Pirates will be the eighth different team he’s pitched for and the first time he’s pitched for an NL Central team. Yates has 503 career games of MLB experience.
The price
23-year-old right-handed starter Kyle Robinson who at three levels combined this year was 5-2, 4.55 ERA, 19 games (18 starts), 83 innings, 34 walks, 78 strikeouts, 1.43 ERA and .266 batting average against. At AA Altoona, 1-1, 6.43 ERA, 1.86 WHIP.
Lake Bachar
The 6’2” right-hander pitched college ball at Wisconsin-Whitewater and was a fifth-round pick in the 2016 Draft, finally making it to the Marlins in 2024 and this year made 38 appearances (four starts) 58.2 innings, 3.84 ERA, 61 strikeouts, 21 walks, 1.09 ERA, .201 BA against. He actually pitched more against lefties, holding them to a .225 average with the .170 average against righties. Bachar is under team control through the 2030 season.

Pirates give up right-handed reliever Brandan Bidois, who made his MLB debut this year, (6.32 ERA in 15.2 innings with Bucs this season in 15 appearances), infielder Hyun Seung Lee (18-year-old hitting .157 in 15 games with Class A Bradenton) and outfielder Brian Sanchez (22-year-old hitting .254, .772 OPS with High A Greensboro with 17 doubles and 9 HR in 83 games).
