Pirates’ reliever Chris Stratton and his family are breathing a sigh of relief Thursday morning, after their dog “Ace” returned home safe after missing for a week.

Ace escaped the Stratton’s backyard in Shadyside last week but was found in the Upper Hill area, about three miles from their house.

Ace had been in the area for about four days.

Neighbors would call the Stratton's anytime they saw Ace, but he was too scared and would run away from them.

After getting a call Thursday morning, Chris drove out to the area and Ace came running out of the woods to him.

The 50-pound lab heeler mix could be seen with his tongue sticking out in happiness, now that he has been reunited with his family.

“Ace is home!” Stratton said in a post on social media. “Thank you to everyone for getting the word out and helping this guy come back to our family! A very special thanks to the Upper Hill neighborhood-everyone was very helpful and invested in getting him back to us!”

Stratton and his wife Martha Kate have three children.

Stratton is in his third year with the Bucs. This season, he currently has a 3.29 ERA with 25 strikeouts and 8 walks.
