PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Out since the middle of the month with right wrist inflammation, the Pirates reinstated set-up man Colin Holderman from the 15-day Injured List.

"The rehab went well," Holderman said. "It took a little bit to take the inflammation out of the wrist. Once we got that, it felt really good, really fast. I'm really excited to be back especially after a nice sweep of the Padres. Happy to be back with all this momentum."

"It's very important," said Pirates manager Derek Shelton of having him back. "He's a guy that was pitching high-leverage innings for us and I'll follow up with the answer to the next question, in terms of where he pitches. I think we will find the matchups right now of getting him back acclimated. That could be at the end, it could be earlier than that. It's nice to have him back because he was a major part of our bullpen early in the year."

The 27-year-old was 0-1 with a save this season throwing 24.2 innings in 26 games with a 4.01 ERA, 28 strikeouts to seven walks. He gave up three of the 11 earned runs he's allowed this season in his last appearance before going on the injured list.

Shelton said while they have similar velocity, their different body types and arm angles allow them to complement each other as the typically eighth and ninth inning relievers.

"We bounce stuff off (each other)," Bednar said. "Our stuff is very different, but I think we go after guys the same. He brings a certain intensity to the mound and I think a lot of guys feed off that."

Holderman was the return from the Mets in the Daniel Vogelbach deal and is making only $725,000. Right-hander Cody Bolton sent back to AAA.
