A San Francisco based writer for The Athletic predicts the San Francisco 49ers will trade quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the Steelers.

Tim Kawakami says that he thinks “several teams will be interested in acquiring Garoppolo, I don’t think any of them will plan for him as the long-term franchise QB. Which will limit his trade value.”
Kawakami sees the Niners giving up a fourth-round pick this coming draft and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2023 that could turn into a second rounder.
He adds that Garoppolo would be a “very good placeholder QB” over the next few seasons while the Steelers look for their quarterback of the future.
Garoppolo helped get the 49ers to the NFL Championship Game that they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams.
Garoppolo is 30-years-old and has a history of injuries.
Last season, he went 9-6, throwing for 3,810 with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
It has been believed San Francisco will look to move Garoppolo with Trey Lance waiting in the wings.
Pro Football Focus’ latest mock draft this week had the Steelers making a deal with Las Vegas, giving up their first round pick at #20 and their first round pick in 2023 along with a third round for Derek Carr.
If you look at both potential deals, clearly the Garoppolo move would cost the Steelers a lot less.
