With the trade deadline less than a month away trade talks are beginning to heat up around Major League Baseball.
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports that Pirates starting pitcher Jose Quintana is one of the hottest pitches on the trade market, “especially after last night’s win over the Yankees.”
Morosi says one of the possible landing spots for Quintana is Toronto.
Blue Jays’ lefty Yusei Kikuchi is struggling this season, currently 3-5 with a 5.12 ERA and lefty pitcher Hyun Jin Ryu is on the 60-day injured list.
While Quintana is 2-4 he has an ERA of 3.33 in 16 starts.
He has 74 strike outs over 81.0 innings, including seven Tuesday night against the Yankees. He gave up one earned run over 5.0 innings, giving up six hits and zero walks.
He’s 85-84 over his career with a 3.81 ERA.
If the Pirates can get some young talent, especially some arms, it would be a good move for Pittsburgh.
On the other hand, the Pirates can try to lock up Quintana on a two-year deal and hope he can continue to be effective and take a Francisco Liriano type deal.
