PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – If you bought into everyone has to have a Mike McCarthy tie in order to be part of the new Steelers, then the running back who agreed to a free agent deal Monday wouldn’t surprise you.

Tailback Rico Dowdle was signed as an undrafted free agent by McCarthy in Dallas in 2020 and had his first one-thousand-yard season in McCarthy’s final year with the Cowboys. The 5’11”, 215-pound Dowdle followed that up with another one-thousand-yard season last year in Carolina (1,076 yards). Dowdle also had a career-high 39 receptions for 297 yards and seven total touchdowns. The 27-year-old can also return kicks.

Dowdle shared the backfield with Chuba Hubbard last year with the Panthers and is highly graded by Pro Football Focus for his running ability, but also ranked as the sixth worst pass blocker among running backs.

He played for $2.75 million last year in Charlotte, but NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reports he will get a two-year deal worth $12.25 million.
