PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It’s interesting that when the Pirates decided to make three coaching changes Tuesday, one of them was in charge of their best position in 2025.

According to the Post-Gazette’s Jason Mackey, pitching coach Oscar Marin will not be back in 2025 and his assistant Brent Strom is likely retiring. The Pirates had the fourth best WHIP in Major League Baseball at 1.22 and the third best ERA in the National League (3.76). They were also top of baseball in several other categories.

Marin, 42, was hired in 2020 to join Derek Shelton’s staff as the pitching coach after only one season coaching in the majors. He came to the Pirates after spending 2019 as the Rangers bullpen coach. Marin spent the previous two seasons as the minor league pitching coordinator for the Seattle Mariners.

Strom was hired in December of last year after being fired by Arizona. The 76-year-old was a pitching coach with Houston and Houston previously.

Rabelo, 45, a former manager of the Erie SeaWolves was hired by the Pirates in January of 2021 and has been the third base coach since 2022.
