According to the NFL Network, the Steelers are getting quality pass defender Joe Schobert for a "late round" draft pick.

The Post-Gazette's Ray Fittipaldo says if that ends up being the case, it is likely a salary dump by the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Steelers will retain his entire contract.

The 27-year-old, who also played with the Browns in the past delivers a $7.3 million cap hit in 2021.

His contract lasts through 2024 with an opt out for the Steelers in 2022.

Schobert is set to make $8.7 million in 2022 and over $10 million the next two years after that.

But Pro Football Focus reported Thursday evening that Jacksonville will retain part of the salary.

PFF graded the Pro Bowlers as the second best coverage linebacker in the NFL in 2018 during a 103-tackle season in just 13 games the Browns.

Schobert would instantly be the Steelers best inside linebacker, until Devin Bush and prove that he's fully recovered from injury.

The move also will give the Steelers more depth, the Robert Spillane moving to second on the depth chart.

Linebacker Melvin Ingram played in a Pro Bowl with Schobert when the likely new Steelers linebacker was with the Browns.

"I know he's a phenomenal player," Ingram said.  "I don't know if he's coming here or not, but he's a phenomenal player."

Last season with Jacksonville, Schobert had three interceptions with one touchdown, four passes defended, two forced fumbles 2.5 sacks and has over 100 tackles the past four seasons.
