Roethlisberger pleased with progress of offensive line

There were (and still are) many questions surrounded the offensive line coming into the 2021 season for the Steelers

Rookies Dan Moore Jr. and Kendrick Green played in their first regular season game on Sunday, guard Trai Turner played his first game in black and gold after coming over from the Chargers, 2nd year guard Kevin Dotson is now a regular starter with Chukwuma Okorafor moving back to right tackle after an experiment at left seemed to not work out.

Oh and the apparent starting right Tackle, Zach Banner is still out after he had major surgery last season.

But while the offensive line looked shaky, with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger being sacked twice and another failed attempt to establish a run game, the line did well enough to help the Steelers beat the Bills.

During his weekly press conference on Wednesday, Roethlisberger said he is encouraged by the growth of the O-line.

"To go into that environment like when we talk about how loud it was, hostile, against a really good football team, guys that had been around probably more so than young guys how important that win was," said Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger says they spend the past two weeks in a silent count and admits "it's annoying" but "to see your hard work pay off, I think it's good for everybody."

Even in the silent count, the Steelers didn't give up any pre-snap penalties, something coach Mike Tomlin said he was pleasantly surprised about.

"I think one time Kendrick snapped it on one instead of two so it kind of caught us off guard, but that's too be expected of all the plays and all the stuff going on and it was not a disastrous play so yeah, at the end of the day when you don't turn the ball over and limit pre-snap penalties, that's good," said Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger adds the only thing that will help to continue the improvement of the offensive line is time and the unit putting in the work to get better.
