PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – A third Rooney is up for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Art Rooney, Junior is one of 60 semifinalists (along with Buddy Parker and Marty Schottenheimer) named Wednesday for the 2023 Seniors and Coaches/Contributors categories.

Rooney, Jr. is currently a Vice President of the Steelers and before starting that job in 1987 was the Steelers Personnel Director for some of the greatest drafts in team history 1965-1986. Rooney drafted nine Hall of Fame players and signed a pair of undrafted rookies who also have busts in Canton. He also won four Super Bowl championships in the 1970s and two more while a team executive.

Buddy Parker was the Steelers head coach from 1957-64 and won NFL titles with the Detroit Lions in 1952 and 1953 along with coaching the Chicago Cardinals.

Fort Cherry HS graduate and Canonsburg native Marty Schottenheimer is also nominated. Coaching the Browns, Chiefs and Chargers, Schottenheimer won 205 games in 21 seasons.
