It seems almost as sure as the sun will come up tomorrow, Mike Tomlin will be the Steelers head coach next year, no matter what happens on Sunday.
If the Steelers get blown out and Tomlin and his team get booed off the Acrisure Stadium field against the Ravens Sunday night, Tomlin will be back next season.
But, according to the NFL’s top insider, it is “in the realm of possibility” that Tomlin isn’t back as the Steelers coach in 2026.
Adam Schefter was discussing the possible NFL coaching changes that could take play after the season on the Pat McAfee Show Monday afternoon.
Schefter says the most interesting possibility is what happened after Sunday night’s Steelers/Ravens game that will determine the winner of the AFC North.
Both Tomlin and Ravens coach John Harbaugh have been under fire by fans throughout different points this season, with Schefter pointing out the “fire Tomlin” chants at Acrisure Stadium a few weeks back.
“One of those owners is going to want to have a conversation about what went wrong,” said Schefter but that it may be Tomlin or Harbaugh that goes to their owner and tells them they want to move on to another team or TV.”
While Schefter says it isn’t likely, “those things are possible, they’re in the realm of possibility of the wide-range of outcomes after the NFL week 18,” said Schefter.
Schefter adds the NFL coaching carousel never goes as planned every offseason.
