Did the Steelers choose Mitch Trubisky over Deshaun Watson?

That’s the word from former Buccaneers QB Shaun King, who tweeted Monday there was “extreme interest” from Watson’s camp about joining the Steelers. “There was extreme interest on the Watson side to make a deal with Pittsburgh,” King posted. “Obviously the steelers opted for the trubisky option which doesn't require any compensation in return. Time will tell if the organization made the right move.”

That’s one way to put it. Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in the game, whereas Trubisky lost his starting job to Nick Foles.

Steelers fans can take solace in the fact that King’s report may not be true. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers insider Gerry Dulac tweeted last week the Steelers weren’t interested in Watson.

King originally surfaced his story about Watson and the Steelers last week. When questioned, the NFL veteran, who’s now a host for VSiN in Las Vegas, doubled down on his report.

King said if Watson’s legal issues were resolved, there “could be an announcement that Deshaun Watson will be the next quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

A Texas grand jury declined Friday to indict Watson of criminal charges stemming from nine of the 10 criminal complaints followed against him last year regarding allegations of sexual misconduct.

On Monday, it was reported the Steelers signed Trubisky. An announcement from the team is probably forthcoming.
