PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith said they were going to do whatever they needed with whatever personnel and Saturday they added a new receiver to the active roster.
Signed to the practice squad on November 4, potential deep threat receiver Marques Valdes-Scantling was signed to the active roster for Sunday’s matchup in Baltimore as the Steelers come off one of its worst offensive performances of the season against the Bills last week.
Valdes-Scantling said he’s had time now to understand the offense and has tried to make the most of his practice reps, now he will get an opportunity in a game for the first time in a couple of months. He also said he’s played all of the receiver positions and is ready wherever they need him Sunday.
In four years together with the Packers, Valdes-Scantling caught 123 passes for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns with Aaron Rodgers. That’s an average of 17.5 per game and in 2020, he led the NFL with a 20.9 yards-per-catch average on 33 receptions.
In eight games with the Saints last year, Valdes-Scantling averaged 22.6 yards per catch with four of his 17 receptions going for touchdowns.
Steelers also called up tackle Dylan Cook due to the injuries to Broderick Jones and Calvin Anderson and he will be on the active roster Sunday.
