PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He was an undrafted player the Steelers were high on in offseason drills and into training camp. Now Sebastian Castro returns to the Steelers, claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay.

Castro was the Steelers leading tackler against the Bucs in the preseason, which led to their desire to sign him off the Steelers practice squad.

Not selected in the draft, Castro was one of the first free agent signings after 163 tackles in 53 career games at Iowa. He had a tackle for loss as part of six tackles and an interception against national champion Ohio State last year. As a junior, the 5’11” Castro was voted second-team All-Big 10.

To make room on the 53-man roster, the Steelers released free agent safety Juan Thornhill. The former Browns safety started a game for the Steelers this year finishing with 35 tackles (20 solo).
