PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Amid a contract impasse, Steelers are listing corner Joey Porter, Junior as a potential starter. Meaning Porter, who has started every game of his career, has an ‘or’ designation. So, it would be either Porter or Asante Samuel, Jr. at one corner position with Jamel Dean at the other.

This move likely more about the contract than returning to form from a tweaked back in training camp. Porter, Junior was added to the active roster last Sunday after missing the entirety of the preseason on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday Porter, Junior is working his way back to form.

Samuel, meanwhile, may have had the best camp of anyone.

Pat Freiermuth or Darnell Washington is the other ‘or’ listed on the initial depth chart—although both are likely to see a lot of time and be on the field together.

Other depth chart notes

  • Dylan Cook is listed as the starting right tackle although McCarthy said they are still working rookie Max Iheanachor there and declined to say Monday that Cook would definitely start.
  • Spencer Anderson is the starting right guard
  • Roman Wilson is the third receiver
  • Jaylen Warren is the starting running back
  • Mason Rudolph is the back-up quarterback, no surprise, with Will Howard third
  • Fullback returns as a starting position with Riley Nowakowski filling that role
  • Jalen Ramsey is the starting nickel
