PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Zac Robinson is the first reported interview to replace Matt Canada as the Steelers new offensive coordinator, per Albert Breer.
Just 37, Robinson has been on Sean McVay’s staff with the Rams for five seasons. He spent the last two seasons as the Los Angeles pass-game coordinator after being an assistant wide receivers coach and assistant quarterbacks coach. The Patriots, Bears and Saints will also reportedly interview Robinson.
Mike Tomlin said last week it was important to have a new OC that has experience coaching quarterbacks. Check, working with Matt Stafford and Jared Goff. However, Robinson has yet to call plays on his own, but part of the McVay and Mike LaFleur group this year that averaged 23.7 points a game, ninth in the NFL in 2023. LA finished 11th in the NFL in 2023 in passing and rushing yards.
Robinson does have something in common with free agent Mason Rudolph, both were quarterbacks at Oklahoma State as Rudolph broke many of Robinson’s records. Robinson also has something in common with Tom Brady, both were late-round picks of the New England Patriots (Brady-6th, Robinson-7th). He also spent some time with the Seahawks, Lions and Bengals, but never played in an NFL game.
After leaving the NFL as a player, Robinson started his post-NFL career working with prospective college quarterbacks to prepare them for the NFL Scouting Combine and NFL Draft.
Robinson is part of the McVey coaching tree that includes Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell.
