PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – From the Justin Fields TD run to a throw to Calvin Austin, the big plays from the Steelers 20-10 win over the Chargers on Sunday.
1st quarter
· After four combined consecutive punts to start the game, Justin Herbert found Ladd McConkey for 13 yards which got the Chargers into Steelers territory. That opened up JK Dobbins and the run game and helped spark the 59-yard touchdown drive.
· Steelers second possession, LA edge rusher Khalil Mack sacked Justin Fields on 1st down, Steelers would have to punt from 16-yard line. It would help LA with shorter field for TD drive
· TD—blown coverage by the Steelers as from the shotgun, Herbert found Quentin Johnston wide open for a 27-yard TD, 7-0
· Following the second possession where they lost 18 yards, Fields threw a tight pass in coverage to George Pickens barely converting a first down on the drive that would continue for a total of 13 plays and 70 yards
2nd quarter
· 3rd and 5, out to Scotty Miller, he breaks a tackle and goes 20 yards to put the Steelers in the red zone
· TD-Fields 5-yard quarterback run on 3rd down from the five-yard line, 7-7
· Momentum on the Steelers side, 3rd and 3 from the LA 37, Dobbins was in trouble on the handoff, made a great cut to get the first down. Herbert would hit a 17 and 13-yard pass play following in 28-yard FG drive, 10-7
3rd quarter
· One again it’s Scotty Miller, after a four-yard loss on first down, Fields found a streaking Miller for 16 yards. Charger would commit a facemask penalty for 15 more yards. Later Fields would hit Calvin Austin for 25 yards down the seam in what ended up in a Chris Boswell 38-yard FG, 10-10
· A sack by Nick Herbig and short punt set the Steelers offense up on the LA 41-yard line. On the first play, a hard pass by Fields intended for Patterson was tipped in the air, bounced around and pulled down by former Steelers first-round pick Bud Dupree
· Steelers LB Elandon Roberts 9-yard sack on first play after Dupree interception led to three-and-out
· 3 penalties by Chargers either negated third down conversions or added yardage to them (unnecessary roughness, roughing the quarterback, holding were the 3 penalties) ended with Boswell 30-yard FG, 13-10
4th quarter
· Taylor Heinicke in at quarterback, his first pass a beautiful touch over the middle for 18 yards, but on third and four, TJ Watt beats Joe Alt on the edge for a 9-yard sack to force a punt
· TD-Fields threads one over the middle to Austin who then outran the LA defense for 55-yard score, 20-10
· Nick Herbig and Cam Heyward each with 10-yard sacks of Heinicke to force a three-and-out on the next drive
