A Allegheny County jury deliberated for just 20 minutes before acquitting 26-year-old Myairah Carter of criminal homicide in connection with a fatal shooting inside a South Side barbershop.
The verdict clears Carter in the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Rayon Williams inside Bonez Barbershop on East Carson Street.
The incident took place after a confrontation escalated between the two women inside the shop. Carter subsequently turned herself in to law enforcement shortly after the shooting, telling police that she opened fire because she feared for her life and acted strictly in self-defense.
During the trial, the court reviewed surveillance video from the barbershop and heard testimony regarding prior disputes between the women. Carter maintained throughout the proceedings that she acted to protect herself.
Following the brief deliberation, the jury returned a not guilty verdict on the homicide charge, agreeing that the shooting met the standard for legal self-defense.
