The unbeaten Irish won at Heinz Field last month and received two first place votes with top ranked Alabama getting all of the others except for a lone first place vote for number three Ohio State.
The Tigers drop to fourth and that is where Pitt will close the regular season on November 28.
Miami, ranked 9th, beat the Panthers 31-19 in Florida as the Panthers played without starting quarterback Kenny Pickett.
Rounding out the top 10, Texas A&M at five, followed by Florida, Cincinnati, BYU, the Canes and Indiana.
Paul Chryst’s Wisconsin team, which is unbeaten, but has only played one game due to COVID issues (45-7 win against Illinois as the first Big 10 game on October 23) is ranked 13th.
Liberty is ranked 22nd after winning at Virginia Tech on Saturday, the Hokies are the Panthers last remaining home game on November 21.
