A new list from CBS Sports ranking NFL coaches from 1 to 32 is being debated after Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was ranked 10th.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is ranked number one, followed by Patriots’ Bill Belichick and Ravens HC John Harbaugh.
Number four is where people like The Fan Morning Show’s Colin Dunlap has a problem. Saints head coach Sean Payton, who has almost identical stats compared to Tomlin, who comes in 10th.
Tomlin has a 145-78-1 record (.650) in 15 seasons with the Steelers, Payton is 143-81 (.638).
Both have a Super Bowl Championship to their credit with Tomlin taking another trip in Super Bowl XLV, only to lose to the Packers.
Both has similar playoff records with Payton posting a 9-8 record and Tomlin 8-8.
The problem for Tomlin is since losing the Super Bowl over a decade ago, the Steelers have gone 3-6 in the playoffs, losing a few games they absolutely should’ve won.
Be that as it may, any coaching list that doesn’t have Tomlin and Payton right next to each other is essentially null and void.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Bill coach Sean McDermott in 5th, followed L.A. Rams’ Sean McVay, Seahawks’ Pete Carroll, Bucs’ Bruce Arians and Matt LaFleur of the Packers.
Like any ranking list, there is a lot of subjectivity in them, but not having Tomlin and Payton side by side is a head scratcher.
