Two of the Pirates top prospects are beginning rehab assignments on Thursday evening, coming back from injuries.
The organization's Low-A affiliate Bradenton Marauders tweeted that both catcher Henry Davis and pitcher Quinn Priester are expected to join the team for a rehab assignment.
Davis was placed on the 7-day injured list nearly a month ago with a small wrist fracture while with High-A Greensboro, according to General Manager Ben Cherington on his weekly radio show last month.
Davis was promoted to Altoona after hitting .341 for the Grasshoppers with 28 hits, three doubles, one triple, five home runs and 22 RBI, but after two games with the Curve, complained of soreness and a fracture was found.
Even with the fracture, Davis hit a home run had two RBI before going on the IL.
The 2021 first overall draft pick had been hit 12 times in minor league games this season before the injury.
Davis is considered the Pirates' #2 overall prospect behind infielder Nick Gonzales by MLB Pipeline.
Priester suffered an oblique injury ahead of the Pirates Opening Day and has missed the entire season so far. He will make his official debut for Altoona when he finishes his recovery.
Pirates Director of Sport Medicine Todd Tomcyzk said last week that Priester was getting closer to returning to game action.
Taken 18th overall by the Pirates in 2019, Priester went 7-4 with a 3.04 ERA over 20 starts with 98 wins and 39 walks.
Priester is ranked 4th in the Pirates organization by MLB Pipeline and his current ETA in Pittsburgh is 2023. Davis is projected to debut in 2024.
