Ward, Woodson named head coaches in XFL

The league owned by 'The Rock' kicks off in 2023

Two former Steelers will be head coaches when the third iteration of the XFL kicks off in 2023.

Both former wide receiver Hines Ward and cornerback Rod Woodson were announced by owners Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Danny Garcia.

Other coaches announced are Wade Phillips, Bob Stoops, Terrell Buckley, Reggie Barlow, Anthony Becht and Jim Haslett.

Ward was most recently at Florida Athletic University where he was wide receivers coach.
He also was an offensive assistant with the New York Jets and a coaching intern in Pittsburgh working with wide receivers.

Woodson most recently was a TV/audio analyst for the NFL Network, Big Ten Network and Westwood One radio.

He also was an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos as well as a cornerbacks coach with the then Oakland Raiders.

Woodson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009.

Ward has been a semifinalist for the past six straight years.

No word on what team the head coaches will lead at this point.
