PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – So let's start with the good news, Chase Claypool is full go for Sunday at the Chargers, same with guard Trai Turner. Both full in practice on Friday.
Steelers will be without All-Pro linebacker TJ Watt (hip/knee) and starting corner Joe Haden (foot) at Los Angeles on Sunday night. Also out, starting offensive guard Kevin Dotson (ankle) and defensive lineman Isaiahh Loudermilk (groin).
The team also announced starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick would not be able to return from the COVID-19 list in time for the game. Likely Tre Norwood will fill in, but it's been a closely guarded secret.
The team has until 4p on Saturday to decide the status of Ben Roethlisberger, currently on the COVID-19 list. Center Kendrick Green said Friday, Roethlisberger is feeling better.
Taco Charlton and Derreck Tuszka will fill in for Watt with the possibility of corner Ahkello Witherspoon getting an opportunity to be in the mix with the loss of Haden. Potential for safety Karl Joseph to be added to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. JC Hassenauer will start for Dotson on the offensive line.
Harris on rookie mistakes
Najee Harris said he talked to a couple of his fellow rookies about key mistakes made against Detroit. Tight end Pat Freiermuth with a fumble and Green with a couple of bad snaps.
"I feel us as a team, we are dealing with adversity all year," Harris said. "For that to happen, it was a little more because we were on a win streak. They handled it really well. They came to me and had some comments about how they can improve."
"We are rookies, we made mistakes. They happen. It really doesn't matter about last game, it's about how we are going to do now and improve on our mistakes. I think they are going to come back even better than what they were. Those mistakes molded them of what not to do."
