PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It could just be more of the same, or it could be something different. Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy asked after being listed as a full participant in a walk-through practice Monday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, if Joey Porter, Junior could make his season debut Thursday in Cleveland? Porter, Junior missed practices with what was labeled as a back injury and then being held out for conditioning.
“We hope so,” McCarthy said.
McCarthy said Tuesday’s practice is more of a ‘jog through’, so more pace than Monday. They will watch how he does, although there are no pads and most players are in shorts.
“Joey is like everyone else coming back, we want to make sure he gets everything he needs and makes sure he’s coordinated,” McCarthy explained about Porter, Junior’s readiness.
Wednesday is the final practice and is more full speed. McCarthy said they will ‘take in all the information and make decisions’.
Steelers won’t have to list Porter, Junior’s game status until Wednesday and they could wait until 90 minutes before kickoff on Thursday to decide if he is active.
Porter, Junior, who is also seeking a new contract, has had one full practice since training camp began and that was in the walk-through on Monday.
