PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said TJ Watt is going through tests Thursday afternoon after being hospitalized Thursday for an evaluation of his lung after experiencing discomfort Wednesday.
What the Steelers head coach knew after practice Thursday.
“I'm a little bit cautious about what I say because I'm not a medical expert but to make a long story short he was experiencing this some discomfort when he was at the facility yesterday and so we took him to the docs and they're going through some procedures,” Tomlin said. “He stayed overnight in the hospital. He has a lung situation that's being addressed I think he has some testing and so forth ahead of him this afternoon and that's all I know at this juncture.”
“He and I communicated last night. He was comfortable and that's all I have really at this point.”
As for when the injury or issue first occurred?
“I don't know specifically when it occurred,” Tomlin said. “I know he was in the cafeteria at one point and that's kind of when I got wind of it.”
Tomlin said to his knowledge there was nothing that happened in-game Sunday against the Ravens or after the game that led to Watt’s lung ailment.
The Steelers head coach said he doesn’t currently have a lot of information about his status for the game on Monday. He’s not exactly sure how it occurred.
Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith said they've reached out to him multiple times and said he is doing better.
"It's a scary situation, a tough situation," Highsmith said. "I've just been praying for him."
Reaction from another captain
“I haven't talked to TJ but I would never bet against anybody in the Watt family of being able to deal with something small or large and getting back on the field as quickly as possible,” said quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
