What you need to know about Steelers 7 undrafted free agents

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers sign seven undrafted free agents on Sunday including the team’s third quarterback and a player from the Northeast Conference. What you need to know about the seven including an intriguing edge rusher.

Jordan Byrd-KR/WR, 5’9”, 170 pounds-San Diego State

First-Team All-Mountain West, Phil Steele Honorable-Mention All-American as a kick returner (both punt and kickoff). He averaged 24.8 yards per kickoff including a 95-yard touchdown and had a 66-yard punt return TD. The first FBS player with at least one rushing, receiving, kick return and punt return TD in the same season since 2018.

Trevor Downing-C, 6’5”, 304 pounds-Iowa State

Second-Team All-Big 12 after moving to center in 2022 and starting every game. Was a First Team All-Big 12 at right guard in 2021. In 2019, Honorable Mention All-American starting 12 games at left guard. Blocked for Brock Purdy and Breece Hall in college.

Tanner Morgan-QB, 6’2”, 215 pounds-Minnesota

James Nyamwaya-DE, 6’5”, 305 pounds-Merrimack

5.5 sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss his senior year, started his career at Division 3 Curry College playing his final season at Merrimack in 2022.

David Perales-LB, 6’3”, 256 pounds-Fresno State

Played defensive end in college and was First Team All-Mountain West & team captain, 47 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks (2 against USC and most season sacks by a Fresno St. player since 2001), 2 forced fumbles, 5 pass breakups, an interception. In 2 years at Fresno State after transferring from Sacramento State-25.5 TFL, 16.5 TFL, 4 forced fumbles

Monte Pottebaun-FB, 6’, 210 pounds-Iowa

Moved to fullback from linebacker in 2019, 4-time Academic All-Big 10. Exceptional special teams player and 2-time winner of the ‘Team Hustle Award’. Had 20 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown with 10 receptions for 85 yards in his career.

BT Potter-K-5’10”, 185 pounds-Clemson

Finished 5-year career making 73 of 97 field goals (75%), made 70% of his kicks from 30-49 yards and 234 of 235 extra points. In 2022 was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist and Second-Team All-ACC. His career-long is a 52-yarder.
